Commencal Meta 5.10

130 kg

Rear wheel travel 13 cm

Commencal, 424-4600

Maxi test: February 2006

Highlights: Commencal uses an individual triple-butt tube that is specific to each size frame. Larger frames have better aesthetics because of the bigger diameter tubes. A proportional 27.2 seatpost is used for the small and medium sizes. On the large and extra-large frames, the 31.6 size is more suitable. The shock is compressed by a connecting rod attached to the top monoshock swingarm. This rocker link is located in the front triangle. This linkage arrangement lowers the shock’s leverage so that it can be tuned to provide more finite damping. The linkage arrangement gives Commencal’s design team greater flexibility to adjust the ultimate progressive damping curve.

Best quote: It encourages riders to fly over rough terrain and push harder into turns. To keep the shock active on steep descents, the forward pivot holds enough weight of the rider on the swingarm.

Bottom line: The Commencals Meta 5.10 proves Europe is one step ahead. Foes, Intense and Titus helped us develop the 13 cm trailbike. They’ve taken it with them. They even took the Super D category we created for these bikes and promoted it to the highest degree. These bikes also have an enduro series that features both downhill and top-down stages.
